The Leicester City owner's helicopter has crashed in a car park outside the club's ground as it left the stadium following a Premier League match.
Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was in the helicopter when it came down at about 20:30 BST on Saturday, a source close to the family has told the BBC.
One witness said he saw Leicester player Kasper Schmeichel run out of the stadium towards the scene of the crash.
It is not known how many other people were on board the helicopter.
Leicester had drawn 1-1 against West Ham United at the King Power Stadium.
The game kicked off at 17:30 and finished about one hour before the helicopter took off.
Under Mr Srivaddhanaprabha's ownership, Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016, having started the season as 5,000/1 outsiders.

One Leicester season ticker holder, who did not wish to be named, said: "I saw Kasper Schmeichel run out first [from the stadium] and then loads of security guards and stewards.
"I was stood outside the ground but it crashed on the other side."
Another witness said it appeared "the tail propeller wasn't working, putting it into a spin".
In the early hours of Sunday, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service's Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andrew Brodie tweeted that he had just left "multiagency strategic meetings" at Leicestershire Police's HQ.
He described the crash as "clearly serious and tragic", adding: "Please don't speculate on cause or who may be involved. Think of families, friends, responders, and @LCFC and their fans."

Sarah Wellgreen: Two-day gap before missing mum report

Sarah Wellgreen: Two-day gap before missing mum report
Sarah Wellgreen has been missing for nearly two weeks
Mother-of-five Sarah Wellgreen was not reported missing until two days after she was last seen, Kent Police say.
Searches near her home in New Ash Green have been extended to Dartford after officers said they were treating her disappearance as a potential murder.
Last week a man was arrested and bailed until 16 November pending inquiries.
Police have now confirmed she was not reported missing until 11 October - two days after the last known sighting of her.
On Friday, Det Insp Chris Greenstreet urged people to send in any CCTV or dashcam footage from the New Ash Green area on the night of 9 October.
He said searches were continuing in Dartford and Fawkham and police were being assisted by firefighters using a drone.
Council contractors have also helped examine drains in the area.

'Vanished without trace'

Ms Wellgreen has not been in contact with her family since she was last seen in the Bazes Shaw area of New Ash Green, and has missed one of her children's birthdays.
Her car was at her home address and there have been no transactions on her bank or credit cards.
The only item missing from her home was her black iPhone 4.
Det Supt Paul Fotheringham has said it is "entirely out of character" for Ms Wellgreen to go missing.
He said: "Sarah has disappeared without a trace."

Ms Wellgreen was regularly seen around the Bazes Shaw area with her young children, but commuted to Portsmouth where she worked in a beauty salon, neighbours said.
Police revealed she had just had the offer of a new job and was looking forward to the future.

Yep, according to sources, the couple are ready to walk down the aisle in India in December, five months after they started dating. A source told UsWeekly, "The wedding is happening in India in December.
"They really want to blend wedding traditions from both of their cultures that are important to them. Priyanka is having a really good time planning the wedding because it’s a mix of Indian and American styles and customs, which she knows so much about."
According to People, Nick popped the question to Priyanka in July while the pair were in London after he shut down a Tiffany & Co store in New York to buy her engagement ring.
The source claims, "They are so happy. His friends and family have never seen him like this, and they’re all really excited for him. He’s definitely very serious about her."
The news comes after fans got suspicious that something was happening between the couple, who started dating in May this year, when the director of a movie Priyanka was supposed to be starring in Tweeted that she would no longer be in the film for "very very special" reasons to do with Nick.

Norfolk police budget cut of £5.5m means 110 jobs face axe

Norfolk police budget cut of £5.5m means 110 jobs face axe
Norfolk chief constable Simon Bailey
A chief constable said extra budget cuts mean officer numbers could fall to their lowest level since 1968.
Simon Bailey, who heads Norfolk's force, said changes to officers' pensions would cost £5.5m, on top of £10m cuts already announced.
"The cuts would mean the equivalent of 110 fewer officers and numbers hitting a historic low of 1,400," he said.
A Home Office spokesman said they were working with chief constables to "understand the impact" of the changes.
Norfolk's estimated police budget for 2020-2021 was £160m.

'King Canute'

Mr Bailey said the force would "end up investigating and detecting less crime, and providing a service I don't believe any chief constable would be happy with".
He said: "We can't have criminals thinking the police are so over-stretched they could do another burglary, deal another drug or rob the corner shop.
"We need a greater investment in policing. I feel like King Canute trying to hold back the waves and that's impossible."
He hoped the Treasury would listen to chief constables across the UK and revise plans concerning pensions.
The Treasury has said it would provide money for the pension costs in 2019-2020.
Costs would be considered alongside other funding in the police spending review, a spokesman said.
"We are working closely with forces to understand the impact this change will have and are in discussions about mitigating the impact on the front line," he said.
Norfolk's police and crime commissioner Lorne Green said he would write to the Home Secretary and police and fire ministers to describe the impact cuts could have on Norfolk.

Thetford man crushed to death by own car

Thetford man crushed to death by own car

Mingay Road, Thetford
A man was crushed to death by his own car after he propped it up with a tyre, wooden block and a jack, an inquest heard.
Sarunas Masionis, 20, was trying to fix his Renault Scenic in the garden of his home in Thetford, Norfolk, when the vehicle fell on him on 21 June.
Firefighters manually lifted the vehcile off him but he died at the scene on Mingay Road.
Norfolk's area coroner Yvonne Blake concluded he died by misadventure.
The inquest heard how Mr Masionis, who was originally from Lithuania, was attempting to fix the car's handbrake before its MOT.
His partner, Viktorija Galvanavskaite, discovered the factory worker's body at around 12:10 BST.
In a statement read at the inquest in Norwich, Ms Galvanavskaite said Mr Masionis had propped the vehicle up with a tyre and a "wood block with the jack on top".
She saw his legs sticking out from under the car and tried to wriggle them, then noticed he looked blue.
Neighbour Bernard Philpott tried to lift the vehicle off Mr Masionis using his his own jack before firefighters arrived.
A post-mortem examination gave his cause of death as asphyxia due to fatal compression of the chest.
Concluding that Mr Masionis died by misadventure, Ms Blake said "the jack failed".
